Introducing Bethel Street

Here our clients will embrace the challenges of independent living and self-sustainability, but will continue to benefit from support from trained support workers.
Each self-contained flat will have a living room/ bedroom, a kitchen and a bathroom. There will be shared communal facilities such as a lounge, and somewhere to provide training in life skills such as cooking and IT. The YMCA will also provide support staff who can give advice and guidance to encourage young people into work and training.

The Phase two building will improve services by:

1. Having a layout which will make it suitable for housing both men and women (the old hostel architecture does not allow a segregated womens' part).
2. Having cooking facilities in residents’ flats so that they can develop cooking and budgeting skills meals are provided in the old hostel with no residents’ cooking facilities).
3. Having well designed training rooms (training and meeting rooms in the old hostel are uninviting).
4. Being smart and a desirable place to live, which will motivate residents to make the effort to become more self-sufficient.
