Supported Lodgings

Thankfully most young people in Norfolk live in a supportive environment they call home. Unfortunately for some 16-19 year olds home is a risky place, a place of overcrowding, family stress and breakdown.

Young people are often ill-prepared for the realities of no home, no job and no hope. They become isolated, disconnected from friends, lacking self-esteem and missing out on the educational and social opportunities thier peers take for granted.

Would you like to help equip a young person to grow in confidence and gain the skills to take on thier own tenancy and live an independent life?

Since 2002 YMCA Norfolk has operated a Supported Lodging scheme to provide homes for vulnerable young people and we currently operate across the county with over 130  Supported Lodging hosts providing comfort to young people. The young person may stay for a couple of nights or years; it depends on the needs of the individual and family.

Hosts provide a safe environment and support for young people to develop thier confidence and life skills. We recruit and train all of our hosts, assess and match young people to suitable hosts and provide ongoing support for both the host and young person.

We always need more people to open up their homes to support young people in Norfolk.
