Housing

We offer countywide services to single homeless males and females aged 16-24 who are at a point of crisis in their lives and may be at risk of, or actually homeless.

The affects of being without a home are extensive; many young people face feeling isolated and lonely, their personal safety is at risk, they struggle to participate in employment, education or training and often have poor health with depression, mental health and substance misuse issues.

Young people come to us for many reasons and with many needs. Once at the YMCA residents have their own safe space,  they meet with a support worker who helps encourage and empower them to work on a personal plan to develop the skills, confidence and experience to sustain independence and contribute to their communities.

Staff work hard at providing activities which add value to their housing support, such as day trips out, health and well-being activities, games and tournaments. Recent activities have included, Celebrate, Royal Norfolk Show, canoeing & first aid training.

Virtually all young people we deal with have multiple needs as well as being homeless. The most common affecting them are; leaving care, family breakdown, debt and failure at school, in training or employment.

Because of this our residents need a variety of supported accommodation at different stages. YMCA Norfolk currently has 6 sites of supported accommodation and ‘move on’ housing across Norfolk and Supported Lodgings countywide providing over 240 bed spaces each night.
