Norwich: MyPlace
MyPlace is a purpose built development of 40 studios flats which YMCA Norfolk have provided for young people who are ready for stage three accommodation. The criteria are that the applicants should already have good self-care skills, are undertaking meaningful use of their time and addressing any ongoing life issues.
Each studio flat is self contained and consists of a kitchen with fitted cooker, fridge-freezer and toaster. There is a dining table and two chairs, a single bed, two chest of drawers and an easy chair. The wet room consists of a shower cubicle, toilet, handbasin and bathroom cabinet. There is a large built-in wardrobe, inside which is the electricity meter for the flat, which enables the tenants, assisted by their key workers, to monitor exactly how much electricity they are using and how much it actually costs to run their home.
There is a communal laundry for the tenants use, the cost of which is included in their rental charge.
On the ground floor of the building there is a comfortably furnished residents lounge, where the tenants committee get together to plan social events. The residents lounge is ideal for tenants who have a child to meet them in comfort and safety.
Also on the ground floor is a superb state of the art training kitchen and a fantastic training room and IT suite. These light spacious facilities are already being used for the MyPlace tenants and also by outside agencies.
Outside is an extremely attractive landscaped courtyard and garden area for the tenants use, along with a secure cycle shed.
MyPlace is staffed 24/7 for support and security of all tenants. The manager and staff of MyPlace are delighted to welcome visitors to the property and are always pleased to show around everyone interested this fantastic, innovative scheme for young people.
