YMCA's Spirit of the Carnival!

YMCA resident's at Norwich Central took part in this year’s Lord Mayor’s procession, where they dressed as Sparta’s from ancient Greece as part of the ‘Islands around the World’ theme.

The opportunity arose when Pat Howe from Spirit of Carnival contacted the YMCA looking for young people to create costumes and floats for a walking procession from the Cathedral to the Forum, on the Night before the Lord Mayor’s.

Participants attended three sessions of costume making which largely consisted of cutting up foam and spray painting everything bronze. Participants got into character so much that they even dressed up again and joined Spirit of the Carnival the following night for the main Lord Mayor’s procession.  Nikita who took part said that she had really enjoyed it and would love to do something like this again.
