Change is always here to stay
REFLECTIONS: November 2010
Change, some hate it, others seek it and some try to run from it. Whatever you feel about it, one thing is certain it will happen.
In the 1980s my husband and I, along with our then 10-year-old daughter, gave up our jobs, let our house and moved to Sussex. We had heard the call of God to attend Kingdom Faith Bible College.
On the first night I sat on my bed and cried wondering what on earth I had done! As the weeks went by I still struggled until the day the college secretary said “all you need to remember Alexis is that ‘change is here to stay!’”
I shall be eternally grateful that I learnt this lesson, for change has continued to follow me wherever I go and whatever I do.
At the heart of this is the fact that although God calls to change and to accept change, He is constant. “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows” James 1:17 The King James Version reads “with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning”. This gives me great comfort. God never changes, nor does he ‘turn’ from us or cast a shadow. We are sheltered under
His wing (Psalm 91:3-5), where we are safe and secure.
Prayer: Lord, in this time of change help me to remain in the safety of your love. Show me how to cope with change and help us all to support one another in times of change. Amen.
