Love makes the world go round

 

Love - open any magazine and you'll find some reference to it. Go to any cinema - there's generally a film or two dedicated to it. Turn on the TV - can hardly get away from it.

 

Love makes the world go round - it's what we were made for. Pity we seem to make such a mess of it most of the time...

 

The Sunday papers make for such depressing reading: "so and so's relationship is over" scream the headlines: "I'll never take him back" shout the large print, "she cheated on me" "he left me" "I'll never forgive him/her..." the accusations and hurts fight for attention, inviting us to believe that this is the nature of love, this is what love looks like. How far from the truth can you get? A true loving relationship is based on the love God has for each and every one of us, steadfast, forgiving - unconditionally loving, and faithful.

 

A hard act to follow, but who ever said that true loving is easy?

 

St Paul summed it up this way: "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered. It keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." Not easy - but not impossible, especially if we remember to ask for help!
