REAL LIFE: Danny had to grow up fast
Danny is a 17-year old from King's Lynn who has grown up fast over the past few months since his mum kicked him out.
"We had a big bust-up," said Danny. "My mum told me I was no longer her son and I was an embarrassment.
"I was gutted, but there was nothing I could do about it. She told me I had to go and she was never going to change her mind."
Danny spent the next few months sleeping on sofas, when he was lucky. When he was not so lucky, he ended up crashing down on the steps of the local cinema.
"I felt dirty and horrible. It was not a good point in my life," said Danny. "I went to the council with a friend's mum who said 'I am not leaving until something is sorted out'."
Danny ended up in bed and breakfast and was then given a place in the YMCA Norfolk supported accommodation at Gaywood Drive in King's Lynn.
"They are good, nice people there," he said. "It feels comfortable and safe and there is nothing to worry about. There is always someone around to talk to or we sit and watch TV together or go on a PlayStation.
“They are teaching us to cook, clean and look after ourselves so that we are ready to live on our own when we get the chance.
"We all eat together round a big table. It makes you communicate with everyone and get into conversations. I would recommend it to anyone. I have a lot more confidence now and am used to people being around. You feel built-up and much better about yourself.
"Now I am working on getting better GCSE grades in English, Maths and IT. I want to do an English degree and be a teacher if I can."
