Support Us

Thought of the Month July 2008

worldinhands-4 web“God is not a deceiver, that He should offer to support us, and then, when we lean upon Him, should slip away from us” St Augustine

Do you sometimes doubt what God has said to you? Or do you wonder that what you heard was simply your own longing and desire?

Augustine was clear, God will not deceive us. If we doubt, we doubt not only ourselves, but God Himself. The opposite of doubt is faith. The writer to the Hebrews said:

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1

This is followed by a list of those who believed God and stood in faith for what He said, even though they did not live to see God’s promises fulfilled. They were “hoped for” but “not seen”.

If God is offering support, then we can lean on Him. We should lean on Him alone.

Today, do not doubt but lean on Him who offers you support – He will not slip away.

“He who calls you is faithful, and He will do it.” 1 Thessalonians 5:24
